People become practical and pragmatic, to the point when they seem to be cynical, but there is a necessity in it, because when a person is completely attached to the divine, the best, the sweetest, he may not need or may have no ability to form other attachments. So, its OK that the elder Jew in the story knew the Shepherd better than the young finalist - there is a life necessity in that.devorahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02244129631376170253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2155872824792085535.post-55160552435514627212012-05-19T18:39:29.270-07:002012-05-19T18:39:29.270-07:00"It is, I believe, glaringly apparent to anyo..."It is, I believe, glaringly apparent to anyone who has taken a peak outside the bais medrash"<br /><br />I believe it is glaringly apparent even when looking inside of the bais medrash. People are very focused on "kiruv". I think there is a great need for inreach---I was actually considering and prob will (at some pt, ulay) write about teenagers having difficulty keeping shabbos. Can we blame them? Do the parents, do we, the teachers, do the community, do we enjoy shabbos? what does it mean to us and what have we made it mean to them? One of my goals in wanting to be a school principal (iy"H) is to bring back spirituality (alongside the intellectual component of learning). It is not just learning Torah, it is living it.<br /><br />"The kids “off the derech” or “on the fringe” are not running away from Yiddishkeit. They have never met it." love that line, I truly believe that.Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11988396893369485100noreply@blogger.com
